Public Policy

The main objective of the GCDD’s public policy efforts is to promote public policy that improves the lives of people with developmental disabilities (DD). We support policies that encourage the integration between people with DD, the people who support them, and the community as a whole.

GCDD’s resources, vision, values, goals, and mission create a solid platform that continues to influence the direction of public policy at the state and federal level. It is a platform that supports change in service provision, reflects the needs of individuals with DD, and promotes public awareness of those needs.

Legislative Priorities

To be most effective in our advocacy, GCDD leads on several priority areas during each legislative session, while also supporting our partner organizations in their efforts. Our Policy Agenda is based on public input, and in support of our Five Year Strategic Plan.

Grassroots Advocacy

When all Georgians, including those with DD, are able to use their gifts and talents and pursue their dreams, it creates a better Georgia for us all. To make this a reality, we all have to become grassroots advocates to promote public policy that is truly inclusive of citizens with DD.

Advocacy Days at the Capitol

Each year the GCDD hosts Advocacy Days at the Capitol during the legislative session. This creates the opportunities for people to go to the Georgia State Capitol to be actively involved in the legislative session by advocating for topics that are important to the DD community.
